Orientation
In the week before the school year starts in August, the high school schedules two days for new student orientation: one for day students and one for boarding students. If at all possible, it is very important that new students and parents attend the orientation day. On the orientation day:
Students and parents will have the opportunity to meet the academic deans and class teachers to ask any questions about courses and scheduling, so that the student has the best possible schedule to start the first day of school. Also, the math and language teachers are available to assess student's abilities to ensure they are placed in the appropriate courses.
Students will have the opportunity to find out information about sports and other co-curricular activities they may be interested in.
Students will be able to have a student give them a personal tour of the high school with their class schedule in hand, so they know where they are going on the first day of school
When new students enter during the school year, as the high school counsellor I meet the student on the first day and try to have a student in the same grade give them a tour of the high school with their class schedule before they start attending classes. They will also have the opportunity to meet other students in their grade who are members of the Student Ambassadors. I will tell the student that I am available to help them at any time with questions other than those about their courses and scheduling, which are best directed to the academic deans. I encourage parents and new students to contact me at any time if they have any questions or concerns I may be able to help resolve.
